The three differences that matter

  • The story comes from the combination of figures, not from one recording per figure

On a Toniebox each figure carries its own recording: the same figure always sounds the same. GrowTales reads up to four at once and the story belongs to that combination, so putting the dragon with the princess gives something different from the dragon with the pirate. Six figures make fifty-six combinations, from one to four, and each one is a different story.

  • Spanish is not a translation here

Toniebox and Yoto are Anglo-German products and their Spanish catalogue is material translated from another language. Lunii is French and does have its own Spanish catalogue. GrowTales writes the story directly in Spanish, with the names and rhythm of a story written in it rather than adapted to it.

  • A new story does not cost €15

The industry's business model is selling figures and cards: €8 to €20 every time you want new content. In GrowTales the content is included in the subscription, and what you buy separately are physical figures that open new combinations, not a single story.

And what GrowTales does not have yet

  • You cannot buy it

The device is in pilot. Toniebox, Yoto, and Lunii can be bought today, arrive in two days, and work out of the box. That is not a minor detail and there is no point hiding it.

  • No catalogue with well-known licences

Yoto sells cards featuring characters children already know. GrowTales has no third-party licences, and the stories are original. For some families that is an advantage and for others it is exactly the opposite.

  • The device price is a forecast

The €99–129 range is consistent with what comparable hardware costs, but it does not come from a factory costing. It will be set with the first production run and published here once it exists.
